Why gummy candy? The shape that is finally not an obstacle.

Updated: May 3

RUNERGY is not just a dietary supplement — it's the first one that's actually good to take. But why does the form matter at all? And is it really as effective as a capsule?

The big problem with supplements: the form that no one likes

Think about it: every runner knows that creatine, BCAAs, and beta-alanine work. The literature is clear, the research is compelling, and the effects are measurable. Yet, for most athletes, these supplements end up in the back of their cabinets within weeks. Not because they don’t work — but because taking them regularly is a constant hassle.

Powders require stirring. You need a shaker, water, and, if you're pre-workout, a well-timed minute ritual. The capsules are large, sometimes you have to take eight or ten at a time, and there's that characteristic, heavy aftertaste. No one at the gym looks at you questioningly if you drink a shake — but honestly, that convenience is still a trade-off. A necessary evil.

AtNRGCUBE, we thought: what if the form itself becomes the experience?

Gummy candy is not a toy — there's serious science behind it

Gummy bears have exploded onto the market as a dietary supplement in the past decade, and many consumers still have the misconception that they are for kids, not real athletes. This misconception is wrong — and science refutes it.

The essence of the gummy formula is pre-digestion while chewing. When you chew RUNERGY, the enzymes in your saliva (mainly amylase) start working. The active ingredients dissolve and are partially absorbed through the mucous membrane of the mouth — this is called sublingual and buccal absorption. This is why certain compounds enter the bloodstream faster in gummy form than from a capsule.

An important difference compared to a capsule: a capsule must first dissolve in the stomach, and then the active ingredient must pass through the gastrointestinal mucosa before it can even reach the bloodstream. This process can take 30–60 minutes. With a well-formulated gummy, this journey is shorter — and, more importantly, more reliable.

The compliance problem: the best supplement is the one you actually take

One of the least discussed topics in sports nutrition is compliance — the extent to which a user adheres to the recommended dosage. One study showed a startling result: at the end of a study examining the effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation, a focus group was held, where it turned out that participants admittedly found it easier to adhere to the dosage when taking a gummy form than when taking a traditional tablet.

This is not surprising when you think about it. Human behavior is well documented: if something is enjoyable, we do it. If something is unpleasant or inconveniently complicated, we procrastinate, skip, quit. In the nutritional supplement market, this means that a 90% effective gummy that everyone happily takes every day is far better than an 80% effective capsule that only half of people take regularly.

That's why we designed RUNERGY for runners, not just runners: we understand that the minutes before a workout are chaotic. Lacing your shoes, syncing your watch, searching for headphones — accessories shouldn't be another chore. Make them a snack you'll enjoy thinking about.

What exactly is in RUNERGY — and why so much?

We didn't skimp on the ingredients. RUNERGY contains 4 grams of creatine monohydrate per daily serving — the amount consistently recognized in the literature as an effective maintenance dose. It also contains BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine, valine) to protect muscle cells and accelerate regeneration, and beta-alanine to delay the lactic acid burn — especially in the final stages of long runs, where it counts the most.

The form: pectin-based gummy candy, with no added sugar. Pectin (not gelatin) is plant-based, vegan-friendly, and an excellent carrier for active ingredients because it doesn't interfere with absorption and remains stable at room temperature — so you can put it in your pocket before a workout or while running.

What the science says: gum and bioavailability

The question many people ask is: is the active ingredient really absorbed as effectively in gummy form as it is from a capsule or powder? The short answer is: yes — and in some cases, better.

A 2019 cross-over study (Forbes et al., Nutrients) available on PubMed measured the bioavailability of vitamin D in gummy and tablet formats in two separate studies. In the first study, gummy showed significantly higher bioavailability (effect size: 1.08 at 24 hours). In the confirmatory study with a larger sample size, the AUC (area under the curve) for gummy was nearly twice that of the tablet — the peak concentration (Cmax) was also significantly higher for gummy (47.3 vs. 23.4 ng/mL, p < 0.0001).

A 2019 randomized controlled trial investigating vitamin C bioequivalence (Carr et al., Nutrients) also found equivalent plasma levels between gummy and caplet formats. Data examining folate absorption showed that peak concentrations were reached earlier with gummy (1.89 hours) than with tablets (4 hours) — meaning that the substance is available to the body more quickly.

Summary: form and efficiency at the same time

RUNERGY gummies are not a compromise between efficacy and enjoyment — they are both. Scientific literature confirms that the bioavailability of the gummy formula matches, and in some cases exceeds, that of traditional capsules and tablets. The combination of absorption during chewing, short transit time in the mouth, and improved compliance means that what we eat really gets to its destination.

At NRGCUBE, we don't want to make you pay. If you like powder and shakes, use them — creatine is creatine. We just think there's a better form. One that you'll happily put next to your running shoes or gym bag every day.
